Among his best-known music are those made for films:
For a Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America, Sacco and Vanzetti, The Harvests of Heaven, The Professional, Mission and The Incorruptibles, etc. ....
In 2007, he was awarded an honorary Oscar for his entire career.
Six times nominated for the Oscar for best film music, he won this award only once in 2016 at the age of 87 for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.
