He is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful entertainer of all time. According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he has been identified as the most popular entertainer in the history of the entertainment industry.

Michael Jackson is the seventh child in a family of nine children, he sang from an early age with his brothers and began a professional career at the age of eleven in the Jackson Five, a group formed with his older brothers.

While remaining a member of the group, he began a solo career in 1971. Seven of his solo albums released during his lifetime are among the best-selling albums in the world: Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), HIStory (1995) Blood on the Dance Floor (1997) and Invincible (2001). In the 1980s, Michael Jackson became a major figure in pop music and one of the most famous personalities of the 20th century.

He revolutionized the recording industry, in particular by designing music videos comparable to short cinema films, such as Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller, Bad or Smooth Criminal. During his concerts, videos and public appearances, he widely popularized many dance steps, including the Moonwalk, which became his signature. Having fused the genres of soul, funk and rock music, his vocal and musical style continues to influence many hip-hop, pop and contemporary R'n'B artists.

Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 in Los Angeles, by “accidental homicide” linked to a drug overdose. On November 7, 2011, after a nine-week trial, Dr. Conrad Murray, his personal physician, was found guilty of manslaughter by the Superior Court of Los Angeles.
